Where’s the sun??
Following on from a scorching last couple of months, inclement weather has returned, but hopefully it won’t put a dampener on you enjoying time on the water.
Pwllheli RegattaPwllheli Sailing Club is hosting the Pwllheli Regatta on Saturday, 22nd of July, with a host of different events and activities planned.
To get involved, email them at racing@pwllhelisailingclub.co.uk.
Swim Safe
The team at Hafan Pwllheli was delighted to work in partnership with the leisure and sport provider Gwynedd Healthy Lifestyles (Byw’n Iach) alongside Plas Menai National Outdoor Centre and Plas Heli to deliver a pilot Swim Safe initiative with local school children.
The main theme during Drowning Prevention Week was to respect the water and learn skills around the theme 'float to live'.
National Eisteddfod - 5th to 12th of August
The National Eisteddfod is a cultural festival in Wales that attracts huge crowds to celebrate everything great about the culture and language in Wales. The event will see up to 200,000 people visit the event, which brings with it the challenges around travelling and congestion in the area. There are plans in place to minimise the traffic coming through Pwllheli, as shown on the map.
We’d just like to point this out, so that you can make your own plans around coming and going to Pwllheli during that week. In addition to this there is a National Topper Championships taking place in Plas Heli, so it should be a bumper week of activity taking place in Pwllheli, making it the destination to come for such events. That’s why we’re such a great place to come to!
RNLI Hub
We’re highly honoured to be a Hub for RNLI vessels. Not withstanding the great facility we have for our own Pwllheli lifeboat, we are also a place for lifeboats from other areas to come for servicing, maintenance and hoisting from the water.
Recently we saw three lifeboats on our dock - the new and old lifeboat from New Quay, alongside the relief vessel. With a value of £2.5million for each vessel, thankfully our insurance cover is in place for such a big fleet of high value vessels being on site at once!
Dog poo bin
Following a request from the Berth Holders Association we have placed an additional dog poo bin at the top of the car park to encourage dog owners to pick up their dog’s mess and place in bins accessible to them.
AdaptationsWe’re very aware that our office isn’t that accessible, and while we look at our options, we have placed a doorbell by the foot of the spiral stairs so that you can attract our attention if you are unable to use the spiral staircase. A new entry keypad has been placed for the laundry door so you can now use your keyfob to access the facility. And whilst on the subject, we are currently renegotiating new machines for the laundry that will have contactless card payment facilities, so that we can continue towards our cashless objectives.
Prize winner
Our naming of the new tractor was a great success so thank you for your suggestions. We are delighted to announce its name will be ‘Tony the Tractor’. Well done to Mr Kevin Willis on Cloud 9, who receives a free lunchtime scrub.
The next competition will be in the August newsletter
